Open Letter
Happy New Year! How time flies. Just like every one of you, this time often brings moments of reflection and sometimes angst. For us we’ve been focusing on ourselves and what makes us special, and most of all HAPPY. You may have noticed that we haven’t designed any clothes this past year, and you’re probably wondering why. Running a clothing business is extremely difficult, especially for one that tries to keep things local. The retail landscape has changed dramatically in the past year with some of our beloved local stores that supported us from the beginning closing down. Shout out to Halfsleeve, Capsule and Created Range you are missed. From here we decided not to make things just for the sake of it. We had to absolutely love what we were doing and have a reason to do it.
We started the brand as a way to communicate the love we have for our city and the amazing talents that inhabit it, which this past year lead us to collaborating with some wonderful Sydney creatives who share our vision and love for the city we call home. We helped introduce Hip Hop duo INQ.uisitive Minds with their debut EP True and Livin’. And an ongoing web exhibition with portrait photographer Jamie Espinosa called ‘Faces of Sydney‘ which tells the stories of Sydney through its people and their passions. We also started an ongoing segment called ‘Welcome to Sydneyland’ with Chau Tran from The 5 to 9 Life which highlights and reviews events in Sydney from a Romantics point of view.
After 4 years of trading we came to realise that designing clothes was a by-product of our aim to connect us to each other and our love for the city – it was the uniform that we wore as opposed to our sole business purpose. From this point on we decided we wanted to expand our vision for the brand. Being business partners and best friends with plenty of industry experience, we knew we had more to offer. We focused on our strengths and launched a new platform that helps like-minded companies, brands and artists develop products which express what’s in their hearts and connect to their audiences. We all naturally think big, but we think it’s time to think small. Think clearly and thoughtfully about ourselves and our immediate community. Through these new projects we are taking strides in an exciting future ahead, full of collaborations and partnerships.
Through progress we have found strength to reinvent and rebrand. Found purpose in not posting for the sake of promoting but rather finding safety in the hard work going on behind the scenes. The first public step to our new company is the launch of our new website. Nothing crazy just a fresh plate to serve you guys some fresh stories and products. We’ll also be launching a new podcast / radio show / think piece called the Journey, where we sit down with some inspiring friends to talk about what connects us all. In a world charmed by the Insta-famous we’d like to take a step back and talk about how fucking hard shit actually is.
Ok last but not least, all that shit is cool but what about the CLOTHES?? Designing and making clothes is our first love and we only want to do so if we’re inspired. I’m happy to say that not only are we inspired but we have found new manufacturers that can help us develop our vision, that we’ll launch early this year! This will mark new beginnings for the clothing side of the brand with us dropping Sydney and just referring to ourselves as ROMANTICS. To all our Sydney siders, don’t freak out, we will be releasing a made to order program with our classics just for you 🙂
We’re excited for the future and hope to continue to be true to ourselves and be the brand that ALWAYS wears its heart on its sleeves. If you don’t see or hear from us, know that we’re working hard in the background. Finding strength in the unknown and peace in the privacy. Not all that’s publicised is real.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Things are all good here.
Big Love
